Selena Gomez is adored by millions from her time on Wizards of Waverly Place. Now she wows those millions with her singing career releasing her second solo album Revival. In August, Selena announced that she was going to take a break from the spotlight and cancel her Revival tour so she could manage the side effects of her lupus.
For those of you who don’t know what lupus is, it’s a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body. In lupus, something goes wrong with your immune system, which is the part of the body that fights off viruses, bacteria, and germs. For example, the common cold. Normally our immune system produces proteins called antibodies that protect the body from these invaders. Autoimmune means your immune system can’t tell the difference between these foreign invaders and your body’s healthy tissues and creates autoantibodies that attack and destroy healthy tissue. It is believed that around 5 million people in the world have some form of lupus.
Selena’s side effects include anxiety, depression and panic attacks. It’s been reported that she can go to, “a very dark place.” She had resurfaced over the weekend when she dined at a Texas roadhouse in Tennesse and posed for photos with fans.
She has checked into a “super intense” facility on the outskirts of Nashville while being surrounded by close friends and family. With all of this still happening Selena continues to let her fans know how special they are to her and hopes others will be inspired enough to address their own issues.
