It’s been an absolute eventful day so far. There has been news coming out the wazoo. But here is what you need to know this week for all your favorite shows.
Grab and burger and break out those RiverdaleStrong hashtags because your favorite Archie comic adaptation just got the greenlight for season 2. The cast and crew have already been celebrating on Twitter and #RiverdaleSeason2 has already been trending.
The series is a dark turn take on the Archie Comic world with a classic Whodunit added. Think a darker version of The O.C. with a hotter male lead. (Winking at you KJ Apa). Riverdale hasn’t been a complete win in viewers but it’s slowly picking up speed in its 18-49 demographic. With the deal that the CW has with Netflix, shows debuting eight days after their season finales, I expect this show to develop quite the fandom.
The CW has already renewed most of it’s slated shows, “Supergirl” “The Flash” “Arrow” and “DC Legends”. Shows not renewed are fall dramas “Frequency” and “No Tomorrow.” I’m still waiting on the CW’s call for “The 100” as well.
We say goodbye to “The Vampire Diaries” wrapping up its seven-season run this Friday, and period drama “Reign” also ending after its current season.
Riverdale is from Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, in association with Berlanti Productions.
If you haven’t already heard around the multi-universe The Flash and Supergirl will be having an all out musical crossover. The synopsis was released last week and let me tell you, it is definitely something to sing about,
Barry (Grant Gustin) and team are surprised when Mon- El (guest star Chris Wood) and Hank Henshaw (guest star David Harewood) arrive on their Earth carrying a comatose Supergirl (guest star Melissa Benoist) who was whammied by the Music Meister (guest star Darren Criss). Unable to wake her up, they turn to Team Flash to save her. However, the Music Meister surprises The Flash and puts him in a similar coma, one that Team Flash can’t cure. Kara and Barry wake up without their powers in an alternate reality where life is like a musical and the only way to escape is by following the script, complete with singing and dancing, to the end.
It’s not stated how many musical numbers we are going to get but it is confirmed that two original songs will be sung. If you are a Glee fan like me you will be delighted to know that Darren Criss will be reunited with his Warbler and Mckinley Alum! Darren will play as the nemesis Music Meister. I’m SO excited to see these three get back together on screen again that I may just pass out into a musically induced coma myself.
A promo and teaser set photos were released today check them out below!
Supergirl’s, Star-Crossed will air on March 20th and The Flash’s, Duet will air March 21st.
STAR TREK SERIES
Paging all Trekkie fans your Harry Potter cross-over fantasy has arrived!
Jason Isaacs aka “Lucious Malfoy” will be joining the new cast. Isaacs will play Captain Lorca, the captain of the Starship Discovery. He joins “The Walking Dead” actress Sonequa Martin-Green, who will star as the lead lieutenant commander, plus James Frain as Spock’s father Sarek, Anthony Rapp as a space fungus expert, and Michelle Yeoh as the captain in charge of the Starship Shenzhou.
Now I am not a huge Star Trek fan but I’m actually excited for this new series and excited to see what it has to offer. I will try it out and then give my opinion. Hopefully, we can get a little taste of it this year at San Diego Comic-Con. The show was originally slated for a January 2017 debut but was reportedly pushed to a summer or early fall premiere in order to help “The Good Wife” spin-off. It’s also probably hard behind the scenes since Bryan Fuller stepped down as showrunner and the show is a huge post-production CGI time consumer. Once they get it together I’m sure this series is going to be quite the competitor. Fear not Star Trek fans I’m sure this will live up to expectations!
